Pune: Vicky Shetty, who is preparing for banking exams, is one of the partial visually impaired artist who will be playing a part in ‘Teen Paishacha Tamasha’, a play adapted by Marathi author and playwright PL Deshpande in Marathi which is being revived by Aatleen Production. The play directed by Swagat Thorat is likely to hit the stage in August this year.
While speaking to Sakal Times, Shetty said, “All the other participants are suffering from some kind of visual impairment so it is difficult to get the expressions right but we refer to our director’s instructions and we try to get the emotion when he acts our part and we derive the expressions from him.”
Along with Shetty, 21 other visually impaired artists will be part of this play. Shital Chavan, visually impaired student learning advanced computer studies said, “Acting is difficult but our director really helps us a lot in learning the correct form of expressions for the play.”
Chavan added, “I really love to be a part of this play. I had participated in ‘Apoorv Meghdoot’ as well. As I am studying, it is really tough to give more time but still, we rehearse for four to five hours daily.” The play is being revived by producer duo Veena Dhole and Rashmi Pandhare.
Rashmi Pandhare told Sakal Times, “Next year is PL Deshpande’s 100th birth anniversary. So this is our way to pay him a tribute. The play was very effective back then and even in today’s time, it is very relevant. It still connects to people and their problems. It shows exploitation of women in a lighter manner. When you watch the play you will realise that it is so perfect. It never gives you a feeling that it is translated.”
The duration of the play is 145 minutes. Dhole said, “We produced our first play ‘Apoorv Meghdoot’ last year, which had 19 visually impaired students. We did 14 shows of it. Now 22 visually impaired artists from all across Maharashtra are participating in this play. Some of them are students while others are working professionals.”
The technical aspects of this play are being managed by Sachin Thakur, Prashant Kamble, Rucha Patil and Vrashali Borvake, while Vineeta Deshpande is an executive producer of the play.
The play was first directed by Dr Jabbar Patel. The play was staged for the first time on June 25, 1978, by Rosy Theatre Academy at Tilak Smarak Mandir.
The music is by Bipin Vartak and it will be out on June 24.
